  • Torrington, CT is the largest city in Litchfield County. It got a humble start as a mill town in the 1730s and has grown to become the core city of the largest metropolitan area in the country. Among other things, Torrington is known as the birthplace of John Brown, the famous abolitionist. A number of sites on the National Register of Historic Places are located in Torrington.
